To fight against defeat has to be our mantra when dealing with everyday life! However, to be aware and knowledgeable on what you’re putting in your body, will ultimately defeat the nasties in the world.

As the weather drops down to 12 degrees or less as winter approaches and the threats of a second wave of Covid-19 cases as well as coming into the flu season, a strong immune system can help decrease your chances of getting sick. I say this to you, as I am prone to colds. I am what people calls the “sickly” one.
Growing up, I always had a cold or blocked nose, never free from infections, but now older, I’ve armed myself with protective information and experimented with essential oils and natural ingredients to build a strong immune system. So, I thought this is the perfect time to share my remedies with you, bear in mind that using natural and organic ingredients are always best, so it may not taste pleasant, BUT it will cure a common cold in two days, max!
Here are some tips, but remember water is a MUST, minimum 2 litres a day.
Garlic

The garlic is the most versatile ingredient in the world. Garlic contains alliin that helps fight immune system germs and includes sulphur in its biochemistry that helps in improving your immunity. Incorporating garlic into your diet will strengthen your natural defences and rid the body of unwanted mucus so if you start to feel sick, eat 2 cloves of raw garlic on an empty stomach and a glass of water will sort you out, promptly. Do this for 3 days and you’ll start to see your cold fade away.
Onion

This staple veg is necessary when trying to boost your immune system as onions contain zinc, sulphur and most importantly vitamin C. Red onions have different benefits than white onions but they both help boost your immune system. Start by adding more to your diet.
Green Veg

To be a healthy person you need to eat your veggies, but green veg like Spinach, Kale, Broccoli and Okra are amazing for boosting your natural defenses. Either blend with some fresh lime juice or stem (for 5 minutes only) or eaten as raw as possible, can cure your cold.
Fruits

Vitamin C is the best way to fight infections, so fruits with high Vitamin C content will be amazing for your health. Oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits, although bitter can help save you from aches and pains and sniffles.
Liquid concuction

A good hot drink can eliminate mucus and effectively help lessen a flu symptom but sometimes you may need something stronger. So, here’s my recipe for wellness:
- 1 Lemon squeeze
- ½ red onion diced
- 2 garlic diced
- Ginger cubed
- 2 teaspoons of cayenne pepper
- Hot water to fill
*Honey is optional
Drink every 3 hours!
Spice

Sweating out the illness is best for fighting off viruses and infections. If you’re a spice lover like me, this will be no big deal to include more in your diet. However, if you hate spice and cannot even handle black pepper, you may find this extremely hard to process.
Turmeric may be the best introduction for non-spice fans, as it packs a good number of anti-inflammatory compounds, and heals you quickly. But for spice droolers, cayenne pepper, or anything that gets you to heat up and sweat is a good thing. Now go Sweat it out ladies!
So, to stand against defeat is to prepare yourself against falling ill. You can happily heal yourself in the healthiest way possible as you are aware of what you’re putting into your body. You can wave goodbye to Lemsip, shut the door on paracetamol and leave all anti-cold medicines behind forever. Now you can fight the flu season off naturally and trust me I’ll be right there doing the same as you!
